Employment in the USSA. . . .WTF?

Employment in the USSA

According to Van Helsing at moonbattery.com:

The one supposed benefit of socialism is the theoretical potential for full "employment." In the USSR, two state slaves would be assigned to watch one cow graze all day for barely enough money to stay perpetually drunk, but no one could say they didn't have a job. In the USSA, school crossing guards watch over intersections when there are no kids around. From suburban New York:

NEW ROCHELLE — School crossing guards continue to stand at or near 18 intersections in the city from 11 a.m. to 1:10 p.m., nearly a year after the district ended half-day kindergarten programs.

Where the topics of employment and insanity cross, both government and unions are surely involved.

School and union officials say the guards' contract was not changed to reflect the new hours after the district moved to full day kindergarten last September, and the schedule is expected to stay in place through the end of 2011, when the contract expires. …

"It's a frustrating issue and it seems silly, but it is mandatory collective bargaining," said City Manager Charles Strome…

Rosetta Pegues, who represents the city's crossing guards in the Civil Service Employees Association Local 1860, said guards need to work a certain amount of hours to qualify for unemployment benefits.

The Maytag repairman can stop feeling sorry for himself; New Rochelle crossing guards are even lonelier:

"They put me here and I don't see nobody," said Patricia Carlos, 55, who stood alone at Mayflower and Webster avenues on a recent Wednesday.

Students are no longer dismissed at midday except for the rare half day, so the guards have few, if any, children to cross at those hours. …

The Journal News visited five crossing guard posts and found that all were staffed by their assigned guards, but there were virtually no students. The guards read and sat in their cars or chatted with each other during their shifts.

Meanwhile, our liberal rulers are aggressively expanding the reach of both government and unions, so that our entire economy can be run at this level of efficiency. The Soviet Union won't be the last bloated socialist superpower to collapse if Democrats aren't turned back sharply and soon.
