Because, as we all know, there are no poor, smart white teenagers who could use a little help gaining an education, or who are capable of contributing meaningfully to society. If you're pale and poor, you're nothing but trailer trash to Bill and Melinda Gates.

This shouldn't be a problem. There is no unified standard for "African-American". Even Theresa Heinz-Kerry claimed to be one. Anyone can claim to be one. Even the standard of having at least one black grandparent is circular. How black to they have to be to be "black". Then watch the monkeys dance when they try to define what it means to be black.
I always have my kids check the "Two or more races" box, just to screw with 'em.
They're trying so hard to not be racist that they end up being more prejudice than when they started.

Dang. . . .What a difference a few decades makes. . . .I thought we were supposed to be a "color blind" society now. . . .I have been sooooo tempted to put "African-American" on some of the 545 jobs that I have applied for in the last year. I wanted to see if I would finally get a response and a possible interview. Who knows what's in the family woodpile, hey desperate times calls for desperate measures :) :)
