According to Van Helsing at moonbattery.com:
Actually this "homeless" mans cellphone might be free too:
------------------------------------------
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently approved safelinkwireless to offer Lifeline -- a public assistance program that ensures wireless telephone service is available and affordable for low-income subscribers.
On safelinkwireless.com they say the cell phones are "funded by telecom companies, not by taxes".
------------------------------------------
Funded by telecom companies my a*s. . . .It is actually paid for by you. Look at your phone bill and see the charges that show Universal Connectivity Fee or Universal Service Fund or USF charges. Last time I checked my USF charge was about $.80 cents a month.
Just like with the new "Financial Reform Bill" that will add fees and regulations to banks and wallstreet. These fees will be passed back to you the consumer.
